Spyderco ZDP-189 cutting demonstraton (Stretch II)
 This video is as much playing as it is demonstrating the abilities of ZDP-189 steel. It was pretty fun to make this one, and I was impressed with the results! The blade(Spyderco Stretch II ZDP-189) was reprofiled to 13 degrees inclusive then used to conduct a few hard cuts after a couple weeks of EDC. The edge retention (though not perfect) was really impressive. Upon completion, the edge would no longer cleanly push cut news print, and it only shaved arm hair roughly (certainly not a clean shaver any more), but for working cuts through heavier material like Kevlar the performance was hardly changed. |

Basic V Edge Knife Sharpening
 Using very basic sharpening tools to sharpen a V-edge folding knife. It is a very basic & simple but fairly effective way of sharpening my V-edge knives. In this case, I'm sharpening my friend's Spyderco Endura in ZDP-189 steel. The sharpener is just a Fallkniven DC4 whetstone - Diamond Surface on 1 side, Ceramic on the other side. Surely not the best diamond sharpening system, but a portable one. There are other portable diamond sharpeners, but I have not tried them, so I'm stuck with this one, my first and only. Leather strop to finish off. I further repaired the pretty damaged edge at the end of the blade after this video, using the same whetstone. Knife is shaving sharp throughout the cutting edge after the sharpening. |
